A Director who was known for making action movies with with fast cars, not fast bikes an unknown screenwriter and a miniscule production budget the size of  a movie made for television. Yet, for whatever reason the film clicked.

This is a fun-filled and exciting community-based bike racing movie and a very well-told story of brotherhood, friendship and sheer determination. I highly recommend checking out this movie that will likely be repeated viewings for future generations.

With a miniscule budget of $2.3m the film would gross over $20m at the box office. The unknown screenwriter Steve Tesich won the Best Original Screenplay Oscar for 1979.

In interviews over the years Kevin Costner has said that he has always liked this film.
