Miracle

Cast: Kurt Russell, Patricia Clarkson

Director: Gavin O’Connor (2004)

Everyone loves inspirational sports films where the good guys win. How about a true story that made an entire nation become patriotic and follow closely BEFORE the age of the Internet and social media. This is USA against The Soviets. What could go wrong?

The 1980 USA Men’s Hockey team was the ultimate underdog full of college players facing and defeating the Goliath USSR juggernaut full of top professional players (subsidized by the Soviet Union) that had won the previous two Olympic Gold medals. Miracle will make you smile and cheering by the end of this brilliantly-directed film.

Fun Facts:

USA Coach Herb Brooks was the last player cut from the US Men's Hockey team that would go on to win the 1960 Olympic gold medal.

Kurt Russell was a semi-professional baseball player in the 1970’s.

Many of the USA players went on to play in the NHL and succeed in business after their Olympic experience

Opinion/Review: This movie sticks so close the real events that happened in 1979-80, the viewer is taken back in time by this superbly-directed film.
