If you love little movies with a big heart, this is the film for you. It is based on the true story of turn of the 20th century country club caddie Francis Ouimet-turned amateur golfer who defeat world champion and icon Harry Vardon. This is a fantastic movie for all ages.
Based on a true story of British golf champion Harry Vardon, who became a champion golfer at the turn of the 20th century, but learns that he will never be welcomed into English society because he is a commoner.
A dozen years later, Francis Ouimet a young American golf prodigy fights against the same prejudice when he is invited to participate in the U.S. Open against his idol -- Harry Vardon. The struggles of both men for acceptance provides the background for an amazing contest of skills. In the end, the youngster defeats Vardon for the championship and the two men would become lifetime friends.
Fun Fact:
The Disney production was handed off to veteran actor Bill Paxton, who had never directed a feature film before. Paxton handled the job superbly and the film joins Miracle, The Mighty Ducks, Remember the Titans, The Rookie and Invincible in the list of great Disney Sports films.
