Coming off the wild success of "National Lampoon's "Animal House" writer and producer Doug Kenney chose country club golf as his next piece of American society that needed a kick in the butt. In doing so Kenney and Ramis secured Chevy Chase as a viable film star. Secured Bill Murray, who replaced Chase on "Saturday Night Live" a film career as well for Mary Tyler Moore Show co-star Ted Knight and comedian Rodney Dangerfield.

The movie was inspired by writer and co-star Brian Doyle-Murray's memories working as a caddy at a golf club. His brother Bill Murray and Harold Ramis also worked as caddies when they were teenagers.Premiere voted this movie as one of "The 50 Greatest Comedies Of All Time" in 2006.

This film elevated longtime funnyman Rodney Dangerfield into an instant legend. He would go on to star in a few movie vehicles of his own in the next several years.
