Chariots of Fire

Director Hugh Hudson (1981)

Cast: Ben Cross, Ian Charleson, John Gielgud

In the early 1920s, two very different young runners train for the 1924 Paris Olympics. Eric Liddell (Ian Charleson), a devout Christian sees running as part of his faith and refuses to train or compete on the Sabbath. Harold Abrahams (Ben Cross) overcomes anti-Semitism and class bias.

This 1981 Best Picture winner tellls the true story of the 1924 Paris Olympics Mens 100 Meter Sprint Championship.  This is a classic underdog story about patriotism versus religious beliefs. If you have never seen this movie, it is a feel good, must see.
