Driven
Director: Renny Harlin (2001)
Cast: Sylvester Stallone, Burt Reynolds, Kip Pardue
The story is based on the real arrest of John Delorean in 1982 and charged by the US government with trafficking cocaine following a videotaped sting operation. The car manufacturing operation in Ireland was struggling financially and needed help. FBI informant Jim Hoffman befriends troubled automobile magnate DeLorean in order to lure him into an undercover sting for a cocaine trafficking ring.
This is not a fact-based film. The writers and producers took some liberties and dramatic license for the audience’s entertainment value
Fun Fact: There is a fabulous coin trick sequence Stallone performs that is well worth the watch. Stallone learned the trick picking up the three coins and it is reminiscent of a trick real-life Formula One driver, Juan Manuel Fangio of Argentina used to perform. The four-wheel drift enthusiast did it to test himself.
