The Battle between a ferocious coach and the young student who takes him on for the heart of the team and comes out the victor.

Varsity Blues is of best sports of the past 30 years, the movie was a pre-cursor to the popular Friday Night Lights, examining high school football and relationships between players and their coach (John Voight). This film is worth repeated viewings just to focus on the superb acting performance of Voight as the evil coach, hated and yet successful.

Fun Facts:

The film was directed by former teen television actor turned director/producer Brian Robbins who lobbied for  Van Der Beek,who came to fame on the TV show "Dawson's Creek."

The film also featured actor Scott Caan, following in the footsteps in the of his father James Caan (Brian’s Song) a man who knew what it takes to star in a beloved football film.

This was also an early film for a very young Jesse Plemons, who would move on to another football staple, "Friday Night Lights."
