During World War II many major league baseball players enlisted in the armed services and the league created a women’s professional baseball league. This family-based film focuses on the true story of two sisters "Dottie Hinson" and her younger sister "Kitt Keller'' (Played by Geena Davis and Lori Petty) who participated in that league. This is a must see film for all ages. Baseball lovers who want to learn about an important era of baseball will appreciate the feel-good story. There are fantastic acting perfomrmances by Lori Petty, Geena Davis and Tom Hanks. Madonna and Rosie O’Donnell both give remarkable acting performances as players.

There is an entire section in the Baseball Hall of Fame at Cooperstown dedicated to this league and these women players.

With a production budget of 40 Million Dollars the film grossed 132-Million Dollars  and over 30 years later is still the highest grossing Baseball Movie of all time.

The story of A League of Their Own was written by Kim Wilson and Kelly Candaele whose mother Helen Callaghan and aunt, Marge Callaghan played in the  "All American Girls Professional Baseball League '' and were inspiration for Dottie and Kit. Kelly's brother Casey Candaele played Major League Baseball for the Montreal Expos, Houston Astros and The Cleveland Indians.
